1. Legislation
WeightDoctor operates in Ontario and collects personal health information as a health information custodian within the meaning of the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA). We also comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the Canada Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) where applicable.
Your personal health information is treated with the protections required under PHIPA. Other personal information (such as contact details collected through our website or marketing communications) is handled in accordance with PIPEDA.

When you become a patient of WeightDoctor, we collect personal health information necessary for your care, including:

- Provide physician-supervised clinical care, including assessment, treatment, monitoring, and prescription support
- Communicate with you about your program, appointments, and clinical progress
- Submit billing to OHIP where applicable
- Maintain your medical record as required by law
- Refer you to other healthcare providers where clinically appropriate
Cross-clinic care
WeightDoctor operates as a separate legal entity from HRTDoctor.ca, GoRogue.ca, and LipDoctor.ca. While these clinics share the same supervising physician and are built around a connected patient journey, they are distinct organizations under PHIPA. Where a clinical referral between clinics is recommended, your information will only be shared with your express written consent. You will never be automatically enrolled in another clinic’s services.
Marketing and communications
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information or personal health information to any third party.
4. Disclosure of your information
We do not disclose your personal health information except:
- As required or permitted by PHIPA (e.g., to other treating health professionals with your consent, or in a medical emergency)
- To our supervising physician, Dr. Neel Bector, MD, and clinical team for the purpose of providing your care
- To our booking and clinic management system (Jane App) for scheduling and clinical record management — Jane App’s privacy practices are detailed at jane.app/privacy
- To a laboratory for processing blood work requisitions you have authorized
- As required by law, regulation, or a court order
We do not share your personal health information with employers, insurers, or third parties without your express consent, except where required by law.
5. How we protect your information
We take the security of your personal health information seriously. Measures in place include:
- Electronic health records are stored in Jane App, a PHIPA-compliant clinic management platform
- Access to your records is restricted to clinical team members with a need-to-know
- Virtual sessions are conducted via a secure, PHIPA-compliant video platform
- Our website uses standard SSL/TLS encryption for data in transit
- Staff with access to personal health information are bound by confidentiality obligations
No system is completely secure. If you have concerns about the security of your information, contact us directly.
6. Retention of your information
We retain your personal health information for a minimum of ten (10) years from the date of your last clinical interaction, as required under Ontario’s health records legislation. After this period, records are securely destroyed.
Non-clinical personal information (such as website inquiries that did not lead to clinical care) is retained only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected.

Under PHIPA, you have the right to:
- Request access to your personal health information held by WeightDoctor
- Request a correction to your record if you believe information is inaccurate or incomplete
- Withdraw consent for the collection, use, or disclosure of your personal health information, subject to legal and clinical limitations
- File a complaint with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC) if you believe your privacy rights have been violated
