About the Program

WeightDoctor is a physician-supervised medical weight loss clinic in Mississauga, Ontario, serving patients virtually across the province. We offer a structured 10-week program — The WeightDoctor Method™ — that combines physician oversight, prescription support where indicated, weekly counselling sessions, and body composition monitoring. It’s a clinical program, not a wellness service.

Online prescription services provide access to weight loss medication — typically through a short questionnaire and a remote approval. WeightDoctor provides a full clinical program: a physician who reviews your file throughout treatment, a counsellor who meets with you every week, body composition monitoring to track fat and muscle separately, a muscle preservation protocol, and a plan through to maintenance and restoration. The medication, where prescribed, is one component of the program — not the whole thing.

The WeightDoctor Method™ is our four-phase, twelve-month clinical program: Assess → Treat → Protect → Restore. It covers everything from first assessment and prescription support through to muscle preservation, maintenance, and post-weight-loss restoration. Every WeightDoctor patient follows this arc.

No. We see patients across a range of starting points. Candidacy is determined at your medical assessment based on your clinical picture — not a number on the scale.

No. Weight loss is treated as a medical condition here, not a lifestyle issue. Our approach is biology-based — assessment, physician-supervised prescription support where appropriate, and clinical monitoring. The weekly counselling sessions include nutrition strategy, but this is a medical program first.

Cost and Coverage

The 10-week WeightDoctor program is $1,499. This includes your medical assessment, all 10 weekly counselling sessions with a nutritional counsellor, physician file review throughout the program, and body composition monitoring. Prescription medication is not included — it is dispensed at your pharmacy and costs vary by medication.

Medical assessment (physician review, blood work requisition, body composition analysis)
2 x 45 mins sessions and 8 x 30 mins counselling sessions
Physician file review and oversight throughout treatment
Body composition and functional health monitoring at weeks 0, 6, and 12
Titration monitoring and program adjustments

It does not include: prescription medication (filled at your pharmacy), lab fees beyond standard OHIP-covered blood work, or restoration treatments in the Restore phase.

Yes. You can pay in full ($1,499 at booking) or split into 3 equal payments of $499.67. Payment 1 is due at booking. Payment 2 is due at week 4. Payment 3 is due at week 8. The total cost is $1,499 either way.

Physician assessments are billed to OHIP. Most routine blood work is covered by OHIP. The program fee is not OHIP-covered. Weekly counselling sessions and the program fee are not OHIP-covered.

Weekly sessions may be claimable under extended health benefits depending on your plan and your counsellor’s designation. Ask us at your assessment — we’ll let you know the designation of the counsellor assigned to your care so you can check with your insurer.

Medication cost varies by prescription type and pharmacy. It is separate from the program fee and managed directly between you and your pharmacy. We don’t markup or dispense medication.

The Maintenance Program is $100/month after your 10-week program. It’s optional and runs month to month with no minimum commitment. It includes a monthly counsellor check-in, ongoing physician access, and periodic body composition monitoring.

Am I a Candidate?

Candidacy is determined at your medical assessment — not before it. We review your bloodwork, body composition, medical history, and current medications. If you meet clinical criteria for physician-supervised weight management, you’re a candidate. If you don’t, we’ll tell you clearly and suggest appropriate next steps.

No. You can book directly — no referral required.

Certain medical conditions, medications, or clinical factors may affect whether prescription weight loss medication is appropriate for you. This is assessed at your medical appointment. Having a condition that affects candidacy for medication doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t participate in the counselling and monitoring components of the program.

What happens if I attend an assessment and I’m not a candidate?

There’s no charge. The initial consultation is free, and the medical assessment is billed to OHIP — so if you attend and aren’t a candidate, you won’t be asked to pay anything. We’ll tell you clearly what we found and, where relevant, point you in the right direction.

Possibly — and that history is clinically relevant. Patients who have tried multiple approaches without lasting results are common in our practice. The assessment helps us understand why previous approaches didn’t work and what’s different about a physician-supervised approach.

Yes. We see patients who are mid-treatment with an online prescriber and want clinical support. Your assessment reviews your current medication, dosing, progress, and clinical picture. We take over management from there.

How the Program Works

Your first appointment is a comprehensive medical assessment — approximately 45–60 minutes. We review your medical history, current medications, weight history, and goals. Blood work is requisitioned. Body composition and functional baseline testing is completed. Your physician reviews the full picture and determines whether you’re a candidate and what your program looks like.

Once your blood work is reviewed and your physician has completed the clinical review, your first counselling session is scheduled. Most patients begin sessions within 1–2 weeks of their assessment.

2 x 45 mins sessions and 8 x 30 mins sessions with a nutritional counsellor. CBT-informed nutrition and behaviour change strategies, protein and meal planning, resistance training framework, accountability, and troubleshooting. Sessions are practical and structured — focused on what actually produces lasting change, not general wellness advice.

Where clinically appropriate, your physician prescribes weight loss medication calibrated to your profile. The prescription is sent to your pharmacy electronically — you manage it directly. Your physician monitors your file and adjusts your dosing throughout treatment. We do not name specific medications in promotional content. Your physician will discuss all options at your assessment.

Rather than tracking scale weight alone, we measure fat mass and lean muscle mass separately using body composition analysis. We also track waist circumference, grip strength, functional movement, blood pressure, and resting heart rate — measured at your assessment and at weeks 6 and 12.

Weight loss medication drives fat loss and muscle loss simultaneously. Losing muscle slows your metabolism and makes weight regain almost inevitable after treatment. WeightDoctor’s muscle preservation protocol — protein targets, resistance framework, body composition monitoring, and titration management — protects your lean mass throughout treatment.

You transition to the Maintenance Program ($100/month) or step down from support entirely — that’s your choice. For patients experiencing changes in skin, facial volume, or body contour after significant weight loss, the Restore phase of The WeightDoctor Method™ addresses those changes through skin-tightening treatments and a referral pathway to our sister clinic LipDoctor.ca.
