At Weight Doctor, we approach weight loss from a holistic and scientifically grounded perspective. Our methods are influenced by the pioneering work of Dr. Robert Lustig, a leading expert in obesity and metabolism, who has extensively studied the effects of insulin on the body
Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas. It plays a key role in regulating blood sugar and fat storage. However, when insulin levels become unbalanced, weight gain can follow. Dr. Lustig explains that high insulin levels make it harder for the body to shed excess weight.
Eating too much sugar and processed food worsens the problem. Over time, the body’s insulin response stays elevated, leading to insulin resistance. As a result, losing weight becomes even more difficult. Worse, this condition raises the risk of type 2 diabetes and other metabolic diseases.
The research is consistent: most people who lose weight regain a significant portion of it within one to two years of stopping treatment. This isn’t a failure of character. It’s what happens when the clinical support that made weight loss possible is abruptly removed.
Your body is actively working against the weight loss. Hunger hormones increase. Metabolic rate adjusts downward. The habits that replaced old patterns are still relatively new. Without structure and accountability, the pull back toward old behaviours is strong — and normal.
The answer isn’t to stay on active treatment indefinitely. It’s to transition to the right level of ongoing support. That’s what the Maintenance Program is.
Many of our clients come to us after multiple diet attempts, finding that each time it becomes harder to lose weight. This phenomenon, often called “dieting fatigue,” occurs because repeated cycles of weight loss and gain can slow down your metabolism. This is where our program makes a difference.
Before diving into another diet, we focus on resetting and boosting your metabolism. Our medically supervised weight loss program is designed to restore your body’s natural ability to regulate insulin and sugar levels effectively. By managing your insulin response through a tailored diet plan, regular physical activity, and stress management, we help set the stage for sustainable weight loss.
At Weight Doctor, we combine Dr. Lustig’s insights with our comprehensive approach to weight loss that includes diet, exercise, and cognitive behavioural therapy. We’re here to support you every step of the way, helping you to not only lose weight but to achieve a healthier, more energetic lifestyle.

A 2 x 45 mins sessions and 8 x 30 mins sessions with your nutritional counsellor every month. This is where you troubleshoot what’s not working, reinforce what is, and stay accountable to the habits built during your 10-week program. One session a month is often the difference between holding your results and gradually losing ground.
If you are still on prescription weight loss medication, your physician continues to oversee your prescription through maintenance — no need to re-enrol or restart. If your clinical picture changes — a health event, a significant shift in weight, or a medication adjustment — your physician is available to review and respond. You’re not on your own.
Periodic body composition check-ins to track fat mass and lean mass over time. This keeps the right metrics in view, not just scale weight, and flags early if something is shifting that needs clinical attention.
The Maintenance Program runs month to month. There’s no minimum term. If your life changes or you feel ready to step down, you can. The goal is independence — not dependency on the program.

The Maintenance Program is open to WeightDoctor graduates and to patients who completed weight loss through another program and are looking for better ongoing support than they had.
Toward the end of your 10-week program, your counsellor will discuss the maintenance transition with you — what to expect, how the check-in structure changes, and what your physician will continue to monitor.
For most patients, the transition happens at week 10. Some patients benefit from a gradual step-down — bi-weekly sessions for a month before moving to monthly. Your counsellor will recommend what’s right for your picture.
Maintenance doesn’t mean you’re finished. It means you’ve moved into a different, longer phase of the same clinical relationship.
For patients who experienced significant weight loss and are ready to address what comes next — skin laxity, facial volume changes, body contour — the Restore phase of. The WeightDoctor Method™ runs alongside or following the maintenance transition.
Skin-tightening treatments, continued muscle-stimulation technology, and a referral pathway to LipDoctor.ca for facial restoration are all available to maintenance patients.
The 10-week program builds the foundation. Maintenance protects it. Most patients stay nine months — a full year of physician-supervised care, start to finish. At $100/month with no long-term commitment.

Our Rapid Weight Loss Program is designed for patients aiming to lose over 20 pounds or those at risk from obesity-related diseases that require swift and effective management. This program features a very strict, low-calorie diet with no room for deviation. Patients appreciate this approach because adherence to the program guarantees results.
During this program, we prioritize the preservation of lean muscle mass, but patients will not engage in exercise until the program is complete. The focus is solely on rapid weight loss first, with muscle building to follow. The goal is straightforward: lose weight quickly and then focus on muscle enhancement.
Ideal for patients experiencing diet fatigue, our Metabolic Booster Program is designed to help those who wish to lose less than 20 pounds and improve their overall fitness while maintaining muscle mass. This program combines a tailored nutritional plan with a workout regimen. The nutritional strategy ensures a caloric deficit that stays below your basal metabolic rate plus daily movement calories. This plan is customized to each patient’s dietary needs.
Included in this program is a 4-day workout plan that maintains lean muscle and prepares the body for additional muscle gain post-program. Patients can expect significant results and full preservation of existing muscle mass, offering a refreshing change from previous dieting experiences.
It is astonishing how much misinformation and misunderstanding surrounds the weight loss industry – one mainstream idea the industry puts forth is that you need constant dieting to maintain your best weight. At Weight Doctor we teach you how to be successful in losing and maintaining weight loss long term. Specifically, we show you how to:
Our Comprehensive Support System includes your own assigned Patient Care Practitioner who will work with you from the beginning to the end of your Protocol. This person will be available to:
Your Basal Metabolic Rate is the number of calories that your body requires to maintain the necessary functions of circulation, heat beat, brain function and breathing. When you chronically under eat calories that body responses by adapting your BMR and thus uses less calories for the above functions. When you diet and exercise effectively your BMR actually goes up! This is exactly what we want on our Metabolic Booster Protocol.
